Fanny Macé, TESOL, Ph.D.

As a little girl growing up in Loire Valley of France, Fanny already aspired to become a teacher. She moved to the United States in 2009 to pursue her dream. She has now been teaching her native tongue for over a decade.

Fanny started her American journey as an exchange student at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where she spent two wonderful years leading French conversation groups while completing her Master's in TESOL and English Education. Upon graduation, Fanny was offered a one-year position as a French lecturer at Harvard University. While at Harvard, in addition to teaching French classes, she learned the leading language teaching methods from world-renowned experts. The following year, she joined the department of French and Italian at UT-Austin as a doctoral student and French instructor. She received a PhD in French linguistics in May 2019 after completing her dissertation on French political discourse on social media.
With these combined experiences, Fanny is thrilled to be a part of Freestyle and its dynamic community. She strongly believes in Freestyle's authentic, communicative model as an alternative to more rigid academic settings.

Fanny currently lives in South Austin with her husband Justin and their two cats, Zumi and Willow. In her spare time, she enjoys baking and cake decorating, as well as exploring hiking trails in and around Austin.
