Clem Ozel, Ph.d.

Born and raised in a small town in Northeastern France, Clem caught the virus of language learning very early thanks to her mother, who was an English teacher at the local middle school. Although she wanted to follow in her footsteps, a first year abroad as a Foreign Language Assistant of French at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA changed her path and Clem decided to stay in the U.S. After two years at Pomona College as a Language Resident, and one year at the University of Oregon as a Graduate Student Instructor, Clem went back to France and worked at a middle school for a year. She came to Austin in 2011 to attend the PhD program in French Studies, from which she graduated in 2018.

In her spare time, Clem enjoys volunteering in the cat program at Austin Pets Alive!, fostering cats with special needs, doing wood work, gardening, and traveling with her wife and stepson. After teaching at Freestyle for over two years, she is thrilled to become the Director of Education and help grow the community of language learners.
