Maria Avila-Carvajal

Spanish/English Instructor
Born in Bogota, Colombia, Maria graduated from Pontifical University Xaverian in Modern Languages (Spanish, English, and French). She became passionate about teaching English as a second language at Rosario University to lawyers, doctors, and staff members, and specialized in helping students pass international exams such as TOEFL and IELTS.

Maria moved to the USA in 2012 where she continued developing her bilingual teaching skills. She worked with families in bilingual early literacy programs, as an interpreter and an ESOL instructor as well as a Spanish teacher in middle and high school.

While working as a Spanish teacher, Maria pursued an MA in Instructional Design and Technology at the University of Central Florida. Besides her passion for languages, Maria enjoys implementing technology in her lessons, and training teachers how to utilize technology.
Maria loves spending time with her family, traveling around the world, and getting to know other cultures. Her dream is to continue learning other languages such as Italian and Portuguese and to keep developing her French language skills until she becomes fluent.  Maria is excited to be part of the Freestyle team and can’t wait to help learners achieve their language goals through Freestyle's innovative methodology and engaging approach to language learning.
